The Kickstand

Down Hill and Mountain Bikes

There is nothing like climbing up a steep mountain incline and reaching the top to see the results of your hard work—a beautiful valley stretched out far below you—and then biking like a bullet down the backside of the mountain, your adrenalin-pumping and your heart racing, feeling totally proud of yourself and your amazing accomplishment.

At The Kickstand, we understand the draw of mountain biking and we are here to help you find all of the equipment and accessories you need to participate in this extreme, self-esteem inducing sport.

Mountain Bikes Mountain Bikes vs. Down Hill Mountain Bikes
If you’ve ever seen a road bike and a mountain bike side by side, you probably noticed that they’re easy to tell apart. Road bikes have thin wheels and tires to maximize speed, but mountain bike wheels need to be thicker and more sturdy to handle the challenging terrain they encounter. Downhill bikes are specialized mountain bikes that are designed specifically for riding downhill in unpaved areas. Mountain bike shops should be able to explain the difference to cycling enthusiasts interested in riding off the road. The Kickstand carries mountain bikes and down hill mountain bikes from top brands including Giant, Salsa, and Norco.

Down Hill and Mountain Bike Accessories
Unlike road bikers, mountain bikers are generally far from mountain bike shops and other help, which means it’s especially important for them to carry all essentials and be able to handle repairs and minor injuries on their own. Our experienced staff is happy to help beginning mountain bikers find the right equipment, including a properly fitting helmet, appropriate clothes, protective gear, food and plenty of water. Down hill mountain bikes are intended for riding downhill and are not meant for riding uphill or on flat surfaces. This type of cycling requires expertise and skill and can be dangerous if you do not have the proper instruction and accessories. Since proper protective gear is essential for down hill mountain biking, don’t hesitate to ask our staff for help with finding and fitting the gear you need.
